We’re enhancing the safety of our tailings storage facility at the former Kennecott Ridgeway silver and gold mine in South Carolina. Over its 11 years of operation between 1988 and 1999, Ridgeway produced about 28,300kg of gold and 19,800kg of silver. The resulting waste, or tailings, was placed in a storage facility, which has since been capped and transformed into a prairie landscape. Also encircling the facility is a dyke, designed to hold 1.2m of storm water, which can be carefully released
